A Good Man Is Hard And Find By Flannery O Conner
In the short story, ââ¬Å"A Good Man is Hard to Find,â⬠Flannery Oââ¬â¢Conner tells how a familyââ¬â¢s vacation comes to a tragic end in the hands of a dangerous criminal called The Misfit. The ironic title indicates that men are hard to find due to their chauvinistic, short-tempered, and arrogant behaviors. However a controversial ending with the grandmother and the Misfit reveals a redemption scene which entails the behavior of woman. The women, including a girl, in this short story have patriarchal views of how woman should act, and the storyââ¬â¢s conclusion suggest that women redeem themselves to men since they are powerful authority figures in gender roles. Gender roles are shown right away in the beginning of the short story. According to Alison P. Lenton in The concise Corsini encyclopedia of psychology and behavioral science, gender roles for ââ¬Å"men are generally expected to be more agentic and less emotional than women, and women are expected to be more communal and less aggressive than men. Furthermore, men are often assumed to have paid occupations and to be financially responsible for their families, whereas women are assumed to be homemakers with primary responsibility for the children.â⬠ââ¬Å"Bailey was the son she lived with, her only boyâ⬠(Oââ¬â¢Connor 940). Oedipus Rex Literary Devices Analysis - 702 Words
From a young age, humans choose to ignore the undeniable truth. Within Sophoclesââ¬â¢ Oedipus Rex, Oedipus is told of his impending prophecy of killing his father, Laius, and marrying his mother, Jocasta. Knowing this, he tries to prevent his fate, but ends up becoming oblivious to it once it has happened. Oedipus enters a city that claims that their king has been killed shortly after he murdered someone, he fails to connect the two events together and discover that he has started to fulfill the prophecy. Oedipus Rex displays that humans will ignore the evident truth through the use of literary devices. Within the story, Teiresias claims to know who Laiusââ¬â¢ murderer was and gives hints to Oedipus, but Oedipus decides to ignore this indicator and instead lashes out on Teiresias. Not only does Oedipus becomes aggressive with Teiresias, but also acts in a similar way to Kreon. Finally, Sophocles uses a foil, Kreon, to further enhance Oedipusââ¬â¢ ignorance. Sophocles built Kreon to act as his opposite to bring out Oedipusââ¬â¢ features. Kreon is a factual, reasonable, and pensive character, while Oedipus is an intuitive, strong-willed character. Christian Ethics in a Postmodern World Essay example
CHRISTIAN ETHICS IN A POSTMODERN WORLD The Rise of Postmodernity Since Federico de Onisââ¬â¢s use of the term ââ¬Ëpostmodernismoââ¬â¢ to describe the Spanish and Latin-American poetry of 1905-1914 which had reacted against the ââ¬Ëexcessââ¬â¢ of modernism in 1934, (Rose 1991: 171) ââ¬Å"Postmodernismâ⬠became very popular. It has been used in the fields of art (Christo-Bakargiev 1987), architecture (Pevsner 1967), literature (Hassan 1971), video, economics, films (James 1991), ideology (Larrain 1994: 90-118), theology (Tilley at al 1995), and philosophy (Griffin et al 1993). In trying to understand ââ¬Ëpostmodernââ¬â¢, we have to understand ââ¬Ëmodernââ¬â¢ first. According to Rose (1991: 1), there are many related yet different meanings associated with the termâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Rose (1991: 1) differentiates modernism as the understanding of meanings in art or architecture; modernisation as the economic and technological developments of the industrialist and capitalist expansion and domination; and modernity as the sum total of modern, modernism, and modernisation. The concept of ââ¬Ëpostmodernââ¬â¢ evolves according to different perspectives of the different scholars. C. Wright Mills (1961: 184) treats postmodern as ââ¬Ëthe Fourth Epochââ¬â¢ following ââ¬Ëthe Modern Ageââ¬â¢ when the liberalism and socialism born of the Enlightenment have both virtually collapsed as adequate explanations of the world and the ideas of freedom and of reason have become moot. Ihab Hassan (1971) describes a variety of aesthetic, literary, technological and philosophical deconstructions of the canons of modernism and the increase in ââ¬Ëinderterminancyââ¬â¢. French sociologist Jean-Franà §ois Lyotard understands postmodern as the deconstruction of the meta-narratives of the techno-scientism and the capitalism of the modern society because of the ââ¬Å"incredulity toward metanarrativesâ⬠(1984: xxiv). Paolo Portoghesi (1983) warns us not to treat ââ¬Ëpostmodernââ¬â¢ as a label designating homogeneous and convergent things but rather lumping together different things (including returning to historical and classical tradition) which arise from a common dissatisfaction with the heterogeneous things of the modernity. During its existence it paid so much in fines for pollution that it is become obvious that management did not really care about the environment, but only about maximizing profit in anyway. It was easier for them to pay fines than to change their management system and prove safety improvements in the workplace. Finally, BP has hurt all of its stakeholders. 7 Steps 1. What are the facts of the case? I think the most significant fact is that BP was neglecting obvious warning signs about the plants weakening conditions, and was focusing on the minimizing costs and the maximizing profits. Employees were aware of the working conditions at the plant because every day they were going to work with a fear that something terrible could happen at any time. BP failed to repair a lot of safety problems they knew about, and it led to the explosion in 2005, 15 deaths and over 170 injured. BP reduced its expanses for buying safety equipment for employees, cut its budget to lower number of inspection, and maintenance workers at the plant. Net bans Essay Example For Students
Net bans Essay In July of 1995, Florida put into effect a new law banning the use of gill nets in all inshore water of Florida. The law contained two significant provisions: 1) some non-gill nets would be allowed, but maximum size would now be limited to 500 square feet; and 2) unemployment compensation would be available to affected netters through a 20 million dollar fund set aside to purchase the nets that would be made obsolete(Stearns, par.5). This ban on nets has led to a dramatic comeback for a variety of fish species, including the Spanish mackerel and Florida mullet. In the following essay I intend to show the ban laws, what they encompass whom they affected, as well as their reaction. Most importantly, I intend to show the ban has made an overall improvement on Floridas marine environment. Over the past 100 years, Florida has been known for having some of the best recreational fishing as well as marine environments. Locals and tourists alike could pick any given day to spend on the water and return with a wide variety of game fish. Unfortunately, over the past decade this trend has been on the decline. The cause of this decrease in the population of Floridas marine environment as well as in other parts of the world, is the indiscriminate use of the monofilament fishing net (par.2). One of the areas that have seen just how destructive these nets can be, is the Florida Coast. In 1990, commercial gill-netters harvested 26 million pounds of mullet (DeYoung, par.56). In 1994, Floridas became alarmed when the mullet spawning population plummeted to about 15 percent of normal. They also felt the impact this loss of forage food had on game fish. One of the largest causes of this plummet is the lucrative market in the Far East for mullet row, which had almost completely decimated Floridas stock of these fish (Stearns, par.2-3). Due to this large decline, the Florida Marine Fisheries Commission (MFC) placed restrictions on recreational and commercial harvest of mullet. In 1992, recreational fishermen were now limited to fifty fish per boat per day, with no size limit, while commercial fishermen have no bag limit, but are required to release any mullet under eleven inches in length. The results of the restrictions lowered the harvest on mullet by recreational fishermen from four million to one million pounds. There was a 75 percent reduction in recreational harves t as a result of the FMCs restrictions. On the other hand, the commercial industry landings went up, until the collapse began in 1993 (DeYoung, Par.52-57). After the restrictions failed in 1993, the people of Florida demanded something be done. So in November of 1994, they went to the polls and voted 72 percent to 28 percent for a constitutional amendment to ban all gill nets in state waters (Julavits, Par.2,4). When the law went into effect in July 1995, it contained two significant provisions: 1) some non-gill nets would be allowed, but maximum size would now be limited to 500 square feet; and 2) unemployment compensation would be available to affected netters through a 20 million dollar fund set aside to purchase the nets that would be made obsolete. This net buyback subsequently became one of the most shameful scams in Floridas history. The commercial netters quickly discovered a loophole that paid them up to ten times more for seine nets than gill nets. A slight and inexpensive modification was needed to convert the gill nets into seine nets that met the provisions of this law. For example, one netter turned in fifty-six of these modified seine nets for over $190,000 thousand dollars. Several other netters passed the $100,000 thousand dollar mark, and quite a few made at least $50,000 thousand dollars for similar efforts. In all, the state of Florida paid almost eight million dollars for bogus nets alone (Stearns, Par.6-8). .ua5b3609d5ede1c442c8e6df0ca281a4c , .ua5b3609d5ede1c442c8e6df0ca281a4c .postImageUrl , .ua5b3609d5ede1c442c8e6df0ca281a4c .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .ua5b3609d5ede1c442c8e6df0ca281a4c , .ua5b3609d5ede1c442c8e6df0ca281a4c:hover , .ua5b3609d5ede1c442c8e6df0ca281a4c:visited , .ua5b3609d5ede1c442c8e6df0ca281a4c:active { border:0!important; } .ua5b3609d5ede1c442c8e6df0ca281a4c .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .ua5b3609d5ede1c442c8e6df0ca281a4c { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .ua5b3609d5ede1c442c8e6df0ca281a4c:active , .ua5b3609d5ede1c442c8e6df0ca281a4c:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .ua5b3609d5ede1c442c8e6df0ca281a4c .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .ua5b3609d5ede1c442c8e6df0ca281a4c .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .ua5b3609d5ede1c442c8e6df0ca281a4c .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .ua5b3609d5ede1c442c8e6df0ca281a4c .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .ua5b3609d5ede1c442c8e6df0ca281a4c:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .ua5b3609d5ede1c442c8e6df0ca281a4c .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .ua5b3609d5ede1c442c8e6df0ca281a4c .ua5b3609d5ede1c442c8e6df0ca281a4c-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .ua5b3609d5ede1c442c8e6df0ca281a4c:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Human Awareness EssayTo further this exploit, an error in the program intended to recycle the nets for raw materials, caused most of the nets to be auctioned off instead of recycled. The nets were subsequently then bought back by the same netters who sold them, for pennies on the dollar. Soon there after, the same nets were reported to be back in

Introduction to Marketing Consumer Satisfaction and Loyalty
Question: Discuss about theIntroduction to Marketingfor Consumer Satisfaction and Loyalty. Answer: Introduction Among the several issues of prevailing in the market, one of the most crucial factors that drive the attention of a company is its positioning. As stated by Anisimova (2016), it is noted that like every other industry, there has also been a large increment in rivalry in the education business as well. Being a developed nation, Australia is home to a wide number of institutions. In order to survive in the changing conditions, organizations tend to concentrate on positioning activities. Further, to understand the aspect in a more oriented manner, the case of RMIT`s initiative to launch Activator programs for future startups and their positioning is taken into consideration. Based on the article, it is seen that that firm largely concentrates on developing competencies and further enhances on the need for positioning. With a focus on professional learning, practical knowledge gain and information development. According to Higgins (2013), a growth in the macro environment factors successfully grabs attention of the university`s management thereby letting to rise of new initiatives. According to the RMIT V.C and activator members, apart from concentrating on financial literacy, venture industrialist grabs and improving business intelligence, the situation of the new schemes formed a crucial part. It was also seen that the new launch would be based in Victoria, Vietnam and Singapore. Moreover, the companies concern for developing capabilities and ensuring a job to the students also directly relates to indentifying and locating the brand in poorly developing sectors. Also the location of the firm would require a huge investment amounting to $7 million. Additionally, the brand also enters into collaboration with the management institute (Singapore), to ensure proper positioning as well (https://www.afr.com/technology/rmit-launches-free-activator-program-for-future-startup-founders-20161116-gsr5lv). Analyzing the news article it can be inferred that RMIT aggressively focuses on building up a firm in a more oriented manner taking into consideration various factors like market demand, macro situation, investment, cooperation and many others.
